Help Relieve Your Dog’s Noise Anxiety with these Sound Proof Dog Crates Solutions

Here’s what you’ll need to build sound proof dog crates:

If your dog suffers from noise anxiety, you know what a nightmare it can be. Noise anxiety can transform even the sweetest dog into a destructive and aggressive animal. This is not a situation anyone wants to deal with and we all strive to keep our pets happy and healthy.

With so many products on the market geared toward helping animal behavior, it can be a daunting task to decide which product works best for your situation. Sound proof dog crates offer a great solution for your pet’s anxiety. They are easy to install, easy to clean and maintain, and made of non-toxic and pet friendly materials. Sound proof dog crates have been found to be extremely effective in alleviating noise anxiety.

A huge benefit of these products is that you don’t need to be home to administer the treatment. Now you don’t have to worry at work that you can’t be home with your pet to dole out medication when that thunderstorm rolls through.

This article will take a look at the different types of sound proof dog crate products that are on the market. A solidly built dog crate should be used. Wire crates are not optimal for this application. If you already own and would like to use a wire crate, you could cover it with wood and then apply soundproofing materials. It will still not be as effective as a solidly constructed crate, though.

Please note that these products are not meant as a solution for your dog’s excessive barking or howling problem. Shock collars should not be used to treat excessive barking. Please consult a vet or professional dog trainer to help you with these issues.

ZenCrate is the first “smart” dog crate on the market. This den reduces anxiety caused by separation, loud noises, and storm phobia. This crate has special sensors that know when your pet enters in a state of anxiety. The crate then begins to play specialized music and creates soft, gentle air flow. When you pet has calmed down and decides to leave, the ZenCrate automatically turns itself off.

The ZenCrate features vibration dampening feet to isolate from thunder and fireworks. There is also a free mobile app available that allows you to monitor your pet. There are optional waterproof memory foam bed and door insert options available. ZenCrate features two colors to fit your decor, and is made in the USA. There are no tools required for the fast and easy assembly.

ZenCrate is a great option of you are looking for a ready-to-use dog crate. It is adequately sized for large breeds, and is a comfortable retreat for your pet.

Prestige Quiet Kennel

The Prestige Quiet Kennel is the kennel with soundproof walls. This kennel protects your pet from loud noises that induce anxiety. The walls of the kennel are filled with acoustic soundproof foam. A spring loaded double layer Perspex and polycarbonate door allows your dog to come and go as he pleases but still closes tight enough to reduce noise.

The Quiet Kennel also comes equipped with multiple air holes and a double fan air circulation system that keeps the kennel well ventilated. Please note that in order to achieve appropriate ventilation for your pet, some of the soundproofing qualities are diminished. A truly soundproof crate cannot be achieved while allowing your dog to breathe fresh air.

Prestige Quiet Kennel is currently made to order in Great Britain. You can contact Prestige Pet Products for a quote.

How to build a sound proof dog crate

If these two ready-made crate options are not available in your area, you can try the following do-it-yourself solution instead. This option will not allow you to achieve the greatest soundproofing result. It may be adequate for your pooch, however.

Audimute isolé Sound Barrier and Absorption Sheet

Sound proof blanket for dog crate: Audimute sheets are a portable option that allows you to decrease the sound entering your pet’s crate. These sheets are non-toxic and eco-friendly. They are made from recycled materials. This product can be draped over your pet’s existing crate, eliminating the need to purchase a new ready-made kennel or den.

The sheets come in a variety of colors. A drawback of this option is that you will never be able to fully soundproof the crate. There will always be a gap in one area or another that allows sound waves to enter the crate.

It is important to note that Audimute isole sheets are not machine washable. They should not be submerged in water. Pure water may be used to clean them. You can also use a solvent to clean the sheets. You can also vacuum or dust the sheets to keep them clean. This could be a drawback if you are concerned about sanitation issues.

The most effective solution for your pet would be to build a soundproof room as a retreat. You can soundproof an existing room in your home with the following products. This is a great permanent option for any dog owner, however keep in mind this could require an extensive remodel and high costs.

Audimute Soundproofing Acoustic Door Seal Kit

This kit includes a door seal and sweep that you can install on up to 3 doors. The door seal kits adhere to the top and sides of the door while the sweep adheres to the bottom. This product will help to limit sound that travels through cracks in the doors to your pet’s sanctuary.

The adhesive tape will not peel any paint from your doors, however over time wear and tear may cause it to come loose. This is easily installed by the do-it-yourselfer and you will not need to hire a professional to achieve great results.

It is important to note that any opening into the room will allow some sound waves to enter. This product will help to decrease the amount and strength of sound waves, but will not create a completely airtight seal.

Audimute Peacemaker Sound Barrier

This product can be installed between walls and ceilings as a sound barrier to your pet’s safe room. This product is specially designed to block airborne sound waves. It is made in the USA without harmful chemicals, so you will know your pet is safe. This mass-loaded vinyl product comes in multiple thickness options available with different soundproofing levels.

Peacemaker is also incredibly durable. You will not have to worry about the effectiveness of the product degrading over time. A couple of drawbacks include that if it is installed in an exposed area with little ventilation, you and your pet will be able to smell a low-level odor. When installed properly between walls, this is not an issue. Also, this product is quite heavy, however it is the increased mass that makes it so effective.

Audimute Peacemaker Soundproofing Underlayment

This underlayment is meant to be installed under flooring and is another great mass-loaded vinyl product. It provides soundproofing and anti vibration qualities to make sure your pet is as comfortable as possible. This product differs from the original sound barrier in that it is specially designed to reduce vibration and sound moving through floors.

Peacemaker is an environmentally friendly green product and made mostly from recycled rubber in the USA. You will not need to worry about harmful chemicals affecting your pet. If it is not properly installed under flooring, a low level odor will be detectable. Since dogs have sensitive noses, this may be an issue for your pooch if not installed properly. This durable product should last a lifetime and you will not need to worry about getting the most out of your purchase. Keep in mind this product does require a more extensive installation process and may not be suitable for a “quick fix.”

If you are not up for a complete remodel of one of your rooms, the most cost effective solution would be to build a solid “crate within a crate” den for your pup. This will allow you to use some of the products listed above in the space between the crates to absorb sound waves and vibration. A soundproof glass door would then need to be installed on the dog crate to prevent sound waves from traveling through the opening.

TMS Sound Proofing Padding

TMS Sound Proofing Padding is another product available that can be applied to your existing dog crate. This mass loaded vinyl offers an easy, tool-free installation. There are no harmful chemicals used in the manufacturing process and it is made in the USA. The product will not have an unpleasant odor. This is important to keep your pet comfortable.

TMS Sound Proofing Padding is a professional product and is available in multiple sizes to fit your needs. There is a full range of sizes and thicknesses available so you are able to choose the best product according to your need. One drawback of this product is that it is heavy. It will reduce the portability of your dog crate, however the mass is beneficial for reducing sound waves.

Dynamat Thick Self Adhesive Sound Deadener

With multiple methods of application, the Dynamat Thick Self Adhesive Sound Deadener is a good option for a do-it-yourselfer. This product reduces sound and vibration and is available in multiple sizes. This product would be great to install in the space between your “crate within a crate.” Dynamat is designed to be applied to a vehicle to reduce road noise. It would be easy to size and install with a dog crate application.

Another great feature of Dynamat is that it also acts as heat insulation. This will help to keep your pet cool in summer and warm in winter. It is also flexible and easily moldable, allowing you to install it more easily in unconventional applications. It is also weatherproof and wear resistant. A drawback of this product is that you may not attain the same level of acoustic absorption as other, heavier products.

What’s the difference between sound absorption vs sound proof?

Sound proofing refers to total containment of sound within an area. Sound waves are strongest as they move through free air. It can be extremely hard, if not impossible to achieve a completely soundproof room in an existing home. It would require extensive remodel and replacement of existing walls, floors and doorways. Most products will give you the result of sound absorption.

Sound absorption decreases the strength and number of sound waves as they pass through walls, floors, etc by adding mass for the sound waves to travel through. As the sound waves hit the increased mass, they slow down and weaken. This decreases the amount of sound you and your dog are able to hear. Dogs have incredibly sensitive ears. Rooms that may seem sound proofed to humans will not be sound proofed to a dog.

Sound absorption will not eliminate sound altogether. You would need to weigh the cost vs benefit ratio in your situation. It is entirely possible that you could spend thousands of dollars to soundproof a room and not achieve the sound proofed result that you expected. This will not only be disappointing for you, but your dog may continue to suffer from anxiety.

The most important factor in constructing a soundproof dog crate is that your dog feels safe and secure inside. Locating the crate in an area your dog is familiar with will help you achieve this. Also, a dog suffering from anxiety usually likes to be in a small space. You do not want to build the crate too large or it may defeat the purpose. Your pet should be able to stand up, lay down, and turn around comfortably in the crate. Adding soothing music would also help to ease your dog’s anxiety. This will help to drown out the sound waves that are causing your dog’s anxiety.

Finally, foam is not a great option for soundproofing. In order to effectively decrease sound waves, heavy mass is required. Foam is a lightweight material and will not slow down or decrease sound vibrations. You will end up spending money on a product that will offer little to no benefit for your situation.

At the end of the day, we all want what is best for our four-legged family members. Anxious dogs can be destructive and make pet owners anxious as well. Whether a ready-made soundproof dog crate or a do-it-yourself approach is best for you, there are numerous products available on the market to help you achieve your goal.
